Video: Think of Buying a Home? Do Your Groundwork.
The only thing I really take issue with in the video below is the statement that home buying can be complicated. You’ve heard me say it over and over again… If your Realtor is doing their job, buying a home should never be “scary”, intimidating, complicated or stressful. If an agent tells you it will be, tell them “Do Your Job!”
Ok, now that I’ve gotten that out of my system I do have a few things to say about credit. Your credit score not only determines whether or not a lender will give you a mortgage, but did you know that your score also affects your interest rate? The lower the score, the higher your rate will be. It could mean the difference between owning a nice home and owning your dream home.

Welcome to Today’s Home Update, I’m Amanda.
Whether your planing on buying a home in one year or five, there are steps you should take right now to get ready for homeownership.
First, build good credit. Credit is a huge deal when applying for a mortgage. Things like credit cards, car loans, student loans, even phone bills can establish credit. If you haven’t established credit yet, open a line of credit and use only what you can pay off each month.
Next start saving, for down payment and closing costs. Purchasing a home is pricey. Lenders look at how long funds have been in your account so be sure to start saving now. Set up an automatic transfer that saves a little from your check each month to bolster your savings account.
Finally, get educated. No matter how financially prepared you may be, hunting for and buying a home can be complicated. Start researching now so you have a wealth of knowledge and resources when the time comes.
Thanks for watching Today’s Home Update, see you next time.
