Arizona has long enjoyed appeal as a snowbird haven but more and more frequently retirees are regarding Arizona’s low cost of living, climate and availability of services as motivation to retire here.
In the Phoenix metro area, Active Adult communities are abundant and well appointed with homes available in every price range. But whether or not you choose to buy a home in a senior living community, on a golf course or further out in the country, nearly all neighborhoods throughout the Valley are knee-deep in golf courses, retail centers, great restaurants, entertainment choices and medical facilities.
Few people from outside the area are aware that just a short drive in any direction reveals jaw-dropping mountain vistas and dramatic desert landscapes. If more open space and privacy are what you’re looking for, the Valley is surrounded by quaint rural towns and villages bursting with personality and amazing views!
In key findings from SmartAsset’s recent study of the best places for early retirement, it was determined that “Arizona cities are the most affordable for early retirees”. Four of the highest ranked cities are located in Arizona with Gilbert and Chandler commanding the top two spots! Criteria used in the study included affordability, tax friendliness, care for aging adults, and finally (and in my option most important) livability which considers crime rate and concentration of services.
I know this goes without saying but I’ll say it anyways cause I know it’s what you’re thinking- Summers are hot. But I like to point out that we have 4 months of pool weather and 8 months of perfect!
