Help for Veterans Comes in All Flavors

Helping Veterans is by far the best thing about my job. For the most part my assistance is real estate related because that is my job, and though I find it very satisfying, I especially enjoy the stuff that falls outside of that particular box, like delivering holiday food baskets to Veterans or helping out at the annual fund raiser for Send a Soldier a Smile. These are the little bright spots that put the ‘positive’ in my day.

The world is crawling with kindhearted people but curiously we don’t hear much about them on the news. I’ve been making an effort every day to actively seek out the good news, so I regularly visit the Good News Network and Huffington Post Good News websites. I recently subscribed to two new sources of positive inspiration, ‘HeroicStories‘ and the ‘Not All News is Bad‘ newsletters. That’s where I found this heartwarming post about a Veteran who was in desperate need of a ride to the hospital, when a Jimmy John’s pizza delivery driver jumped right in to help.

COLUMBUS, NE (KETV/CNN) – When a Nebraska military veteran needed to go to the hospital and couldn’t find a ride, his sister tried to call a social worker for help but ended up reaching Jimmy John’s, whose employees rushed to the rescue.

The wrong number call wasn’t like anything Jason Voss, a Jimmy John’s manager in Columbus, NE, had ever taken before.

“She just started going off about how she was in Florida, and she needed help,” Voss said.

The manager listened Saturday evening as Lisa Nagengast explained she had just returned to Tampa from visiting her brother in Columbus. Her brother, a military veteran, had recently had surgery and was having complications. – read more

YVP Author’s Note: Founded by a long-time, trusted web publisher, Leo Notenboom, ‘Not All News is Bad‘ and ‘HeroicStories‘ exist to provide a “place of positive energy”. Leo also hosts a tech guidance website and Q&A newsletter that I’ve subscribed to, and thoroughly enjoyed, for many years and I’ve come to rely on his candid responses and solid advice. Thanks Leo, for these two new (new to me) sources of inspiration and the happiness-inducing invitation to “…look for the good. It really is everywhere”.
