We recently learned of an admirable little organization right here in our hometown of Gilbert, Arizona. Not so little actually, Dogs4Vets has now become one of the largest programs of its kind in the U.S.
This wonderful non-profit, ‘Dogs4Vets‘, was founded by Gerad & Debbie Claseman in 2005. As the name implies, they set out to facilitate the joining of Veterans and service dogs, with a brilliant approach that eliminates the high cost and long wait for ready-trained animals.
A quote from their website; “Our Dogs4Vets program involves training the Veteran’s own dog so they become a certified Service Dog” The training is guided by a team of certified trainers and is personalized for each Veteran’s specific requirements. Above and beyond, Dogs4Vets offers lifetime support at no cost to the Veteran.
We are thoroughly impressed by this thoughtful concept! A devoted family member, familiar with the Veteran they will be serving and already integrated into the household where they will be living, is equipped with the essential skills to constructively interact with and support the needs the Veteran.
We are always thankful for our Veterans, so on this Thank You Thursday we’d like to show our appreciation for those who are working to create a more accessible lifestyle for Veterans dealing with disabilities. To all the folks at Dogs4Vets, a sincere Thank You!
