The focus is on function, making practical use of every square foot of living space.
Something I’ve noticed in New Construction as well as in resale homes that have been remodeled, is the absence of any formal living and dining areas. More space is being dedicated to the family room or greatroom concept. In new construction especially, the living/dining rooms are missing completely, and in remodeled homes the space is being repurposed for use as game and billiard rooms, study centers, theaters, fitness facilities, and in my case a very spacious dual office.
We’re also seeing much more incorporation of master bath with the bedroom, eliminating doors between the two, and matching flooring to give the master suite a sleek and chic resort ambiance.

The walls are coming down in contemporary home fashion.
Welcome to Today’s News Update everyone, I’m Jenny Dunn.
Architect and Interior Designer Danny Cole says one of the top remodeling trends for contemporary homes is to create an open floor plan, essentially including the kitchen in the living space. Gone are the formal dining and living rooms. The walls that defined those rooms have given way to open space, allowing parents to watch children or entertain guests as they work in the kitchen. Islands have come to define any separation between the kitchen and the living space. They have become the entertainment center of the kitchen allowing for both cooking and eating.
Another popular addition is a partition between the kitchen and living space. Art Institute of New York City Interior Design Instructor Pedro Lima, says fireplaces and book shelves of varying heights are a popular way of separating the kitchen and living areas without walls.
Popular master bedroom remodels in contemporary homes create a spa-like getaway, along with larger closets.
We hope this sparked some creative remodeling ideas for your home. Thanks for watching. We look forward to seeing you next time.
