Video: Moving Can be a Hassle, Make it Easy on Yourself
If you’re like me you’ve moved several times and learned a lot with every go-round. This video touches on several great points, but one thing I would stress is to pack very fragile or sentimental things yourself. The only other piece of advice I might have that isn’t mentioned here is to color code boxes with duct tape for each room. Nothing is more exhausting than moving all the boxes more than once.
For your convenience we’ve provided a transcript directly below this video.

Welcome to Today’s Home Update, I’m Sean.
From shady movers to overpacking, moving can be a nightmare. Avoid these top 5 mistakes to ensure a smooth move.
Mistake #1 – Hiring a Shady Mover – You can steer clear of a less than upstanding mover by doing your homework; the Better Business Bureau, Angie’s List, your State Transportation Regulator, and even your relatives, friends, neighbors and colleagues are all good sources of information about whether a moving company is on the up-and-up.
Mistake #2 – Messing up the quote. If a mover won’t do an in-home estimate, you should think about shopping around for another mover. And don’t rely on just one quote from one mover, contact several, and Get estimates in writing.
Mistake #3 – Packing too much stuff. Before you move you need to edit your belongings. If you haven’t seen, worn or used something in a year, think hard about whether you need to keep it.
Mistake #4 – Failing to schedule your move well in advance. Rather than waiting til the last minute, make sure your move is scheduled weeks, or better yet months in advance.
And finally, Mistake #5 – Not packing ahead of time. You can lessen the load by starting to pack well before the moving day comes along. Start by boxing up stuff you won’t need right away. If you get down to the wire and need help, enlist friends, relatives, neighbors or colleagues to lend a hand.
