Thank You Thursday Recognizes Mike Ables and U.S.VETS.
The headline reads ‘Gift of Survival: U.S. VETS outreach distributes backpacks to homeless veterans’. Nancy Hutson’s post on the Daily Courier website goes on to say: “Twice a week, Ables scours the area in search of homeless veterans who might be able to benefit from transitional housing and other services they have to offer” referring to the U.S.Vets organization.
The Gift of Survival referenced in the article are sturdy backpacks filled with items necessary to endure life lived out of doors: sleeping bag, socks, food, laundry soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, sunscreen, collapsible cup, a hairbrush and mirror, deodorant, and insect repellent to name a few.
The article quotes Mr. Ables: “I do this because I served, too,” Ables said as he steers the U.S. VETS van around the courthouse plaza looking for potential clients. “I don’t like seeing my brothers and sisters on the street … And there are success stories.”
We wish you endless success stories Mr. Ables, and we hope our little Thank You Thursday helps others find the US VETS website and a small place in their heart for Military Veterans who are in need.
