Is Freedom just a cliché?
I believe that very often Americans take their lifestyle for granted. We talk a really good game as we celebrate and defend the ‘self evident truths’ of American independence. But over time, truth becomes cliché, and cliché eventually creeps into the territory of overuse i.e. “Freedom Isn’t Free”… unquestionably this is true, but voiced with such regularity that we almost miss it when we hear it.
No, freedom is most definitely not free. But why?
Because, contrary to what you might think, freedom is not inherent, it’s constitutional and as such, could be taken away if we’re not vigilant.
And so I leave you with this to think about on Independence Day, one of my favorite quotes and maybe the definition of “Freedom Isn’t Free”.
