I find living in Arizona to be nearly as entertaining as it is enjoyable. For instance, we have a deluge of small towns with quirky names. I’ve been to Tortilla Flat- population 6, and had a fantastic cheeseburger in the center of town (one way in, one way out, one building), Strawberry and Pine are in a gorgeous, mountainous region that reminds me of upstate Vermont, and Surprise, a fairly decent size city outside of Phoenix is not in the least surprising.
Bumble Bee, Why, and Contention among others, have a lot of fascinating folk-lore attached to them as evidenced in this article on AZcentral.com.
Some of the more thought-provoking Arizona towns?
Sunflower
Cherry
Dos Cabezas, which means “two heads” in Spanish
Happy Jack
Tombstone
Show Low
Chloride
Constellation
Cowlic
Cuckelbur
Golden Shores (shores of what, I ask?)
Hermits Rest
Hindu Canyon
Jake’s Corner
Snowflake
Superior
Sweetwater
Tuba City
Dry Beaver Creek
Wet Beaver Creek
I’m sure theirs some curious story attached to all these names and I aim to discover every one.
