Did you know there was a Veterans Creative Arts Festival? I did not. This year’s event for Arizona is February 9 – 11, taking place in the beautiful city of Prescott. See you there? ~Bill
The 2015 National Veterans Creative Arts Festival is scheduled for Feb. 9-11 and all hospitalized and enrolled, outpatient veterans are invited to submit their artwork as part of the local competition.
The event will be held in the Building 15 theater at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Prescott.
The competition will include judging in over 51 different fine arts, applied arts and craft kit categories. A special commemorative category entitled “The military combat experience,” is offered this year. In addition, veteran artists will have the opportunity to enter a national competition with selected artwork to be used on Veterans Day posters distributed nationwide each year.
First-place winners in each category will move on to the regional competition, with the possibility of graduation to the national competition that will be held in October in Durham, North Carolina.
Five veterans from the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System placed in the top three of the national competition at last year’s Veterans Creative Arts Festival.
Entries can be submitted during the week of Jan. 31 to Feb. 5, to occupational therapy or recreation therapy. Contact Paula Moran at 717-7541 or Sharla Peterson 445-4860 ext. 6243 for more information.
