Coffee, Veterans, and my Brother-in-Law

You and anyone else who knows me, can’t help but be acutely aware that I sell Real Estate, help Veterans, and am completely preoccupied with coffee. These things are indisputable… so much so that I can just imagine you rolling your eyes right now. At least 90% of my daily activity, posts and conversations revolve around Real Estate and Veterans- always with a coffee in my hand so I’m pretty charged (no pun intended) when I find a way to fuse that with my other obsession, Veterans.

The motto on their website states “Proudly serving those who serve” which, as it turns out, is a rather clever play on words… get it? you know, like, serving coffee? (ok clearly this blog is going to be brimming, overflowing, chock-full of eye rolls- ‘corny’ is another thing that everybody knows about me) So back to the coffee. The GiveHanx.com website also states that the company was founded by Tom Hanks, who has long been a champion of Military members and Veterans. The thing that immediately caught my attention was that 100% of the profits from HANX coffee goes to organizations that support the Military, Veterans and their families. This was a no-brainer for me. How could I not try this? We sent in an order around Christmas time as a gift for my brother-in-law, a coffee connoisseur of the first order. He brewed it for us while we were there and I have to say I was impressed! The grind of HANX that we tried, First Class Joe, was rich and very smooth, pleasantly non-acidic. Not only is it really great coffee but the helping Veterans part is a huge plus in my book. HANX coffee doesn’t come in a bazillion varieties but what they do, they do well. And they also offer these nifty little coffee sticks– single serve size packages that you can just mix with water when you’re on the go! Definitely a staple in both my carry-on and my laptop bag. Brilliant!!

So we were visiting with my brother-in-law again this past June. He had received another order of HANX plus he was excited to have found a second excellent coffee that supports our Military. Blackout Coffee Co’s website points out that the company is known for supporting Military Members and First Responders. They send two cups of coffee to Active Military every time you order a bag (having once been Military myself, I can venture a guess that this is greatly appreciated :-)  All of their processing is done in-house and they do an amazing job! We tried the Morning Reaper roast and found it to be robust and full of flavor without being too intense. Perfect for morning coffee break.

We always enjoy featuring folks who help Veterans and Military, Police, Firefighters and First Responders, Teachers, Nurses and other Medical Professionals. So if you own a business or know of a business, an individual, or have a local shop that supports, honors, or otherwise recognizes Heroes in any way, please let us know. We’d love to check out your venture and highlight it here for our Thank You Thursday blog.
