Home insurance is a necessary evil but the practical tips in this video will help you cut the cost of insurance intelligently. Just a few pointers that are not clearly addressed in the video:

Insurers may require proof of payment for Fire assistance or the price of your Insurance could be ridiculously high.
And keep in mind that the full worth of your property is not necessarily the amount you will want to insure your home for. Customarily the value of the land and foundation is not insured and will not be included in any restitution in the event of a disaster.

The Business experts at Forbes say one of the easiest ways to cut costs is to increase the amount of your deductible. Set yours as high as you can afford, remember insurance is not meant to cover the small stuff.
Improvements such as a whole house generator or smoke and CO2 detectors make you eligible for discounts on your homeowners policy. Deadbolts and burglar alarms can also drive your insurance costs down.
Combining home and auto policies with one insurer can also save you money. Get the most bang for your buck with an umbrella liability policy.
When looking for a home avoid dangerous areas where disasters such as earthquakes and floods are more likely. Buy in communities that have professional fire departments, and have your home inspected before you buy.
Finally eliminate unnecessary coverage and ask your agent about any discounts that you may qualify for.
