Our next door neighbor Katie was about 5 when we moved in and we watched her grow into a remarkable young lady. Katie’s family has always had good reason to be proud of her, but this week the entire city of Gilbert can be proud as well. Katie has been working with Operation Welcome Home Arizona to install a Veterans Memorial in here in Gilbert. The memorial park on Civic Center Drive, will serve as monument to veterans throughout Arizona.
Welcome Home Veterans Park promises to be an impressive undertaking to include a replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall at an 80% scale, displaying all 600 of Arizona’s fallen. A Walk of Tranquility and a Walk of Time will honor veterans from other eras as well. Plans for the park incorporate a youth education facility, and a Veteran’s Resource Center to provide counseling and other services for past, current and future military members.
It was heartwarming to see that the dedication and ground breaking ceremony this past Tuesday was so well attended. It would appear that the whole town is behind this now. If you’d like to help out as an individual or a corporation, sponsorship is available here: Operation Welcome Home Arizona.
So today’s Thank You Thursday commends Operation Welcome Home Arizona and Katie. Thank You for caring.
