This Thursday We Thank Fisher House

Fisher House Foundation crossed our radar just last week when Arizona’s very first one opened in Tucson.

Fisher House provides a ‘home away from home’ for military families when military personnel need medical treatment. Each home is placed near a VA medical facility and can accommodate up to 21 families with absolutely no lodging cost. Private bedrooms and suites are complemented by shared laundry, kitchens and living spaces.

The Fisher House Foundation has been around for 25 years and though this is their primary purpose they also operate the Hero Miles Program– using donated frequent flyer miles to bring families to the bedside of injured military personnel, and Hotels for Heroes– employing contributed hotel points to accommodate families in hotels near VA medical centers free of charge. The Foundation also manages a Grant Program that supports other military charities, and Scholarship Funds for military children, spouses and children of fallen and disabled veterans.

The new Tucson facility is located on the VA campus and was given to the VA by Fisher House Foundation on completion of construction.
