One of the most often overlooked moving details is transfer of utilities. It’s right at the top of my list of items to double-check with a client during final walk-through, but I always mention it several times before that. Frequently I receive a surprised look in return and a comment somewhere along the lines of “Oh… right!”
Not only will you need to be sure utilities are up and running in your new home, but also confirm that they are no longer in your name at the address you are leaving.
Possibly the best piece of advice in this video is to establish the extent of your mover’s damage insurance. Be certain it goes beyond the basic insurance that mover’s are required to carry. In the case of valuable furniture like antiques, or highly sensitive items like electronics, you may want to inquire of your homeowner’s insurance provider as to some sort of coverage on the road.
And always keep in mind, some moving expenses are tax-deductible. Check with your accountant.

Packing and unpacking are an unavoidable part of moving but along with all the boxes comes some legal issues you need to tend to.
Welcome to Today’s News Update everyone, I’m Jenny Dunn.
Before you begin your move, review your current lease. If you are leaving before the end of your lease term, check to see if you can sublet your home or assign the lease to a new tenant. While you’re at it, review the terms of your new lease before you sign it, it’s important to protect your rights as a tenant.
Make sure any mishaps are covered by insurance. Carefully review the contract with your moving company for coverage terms. They must provide some insurance but you might want to consider additional coverage.
Update your address with creditors so you don’t miss payments. Also ask the post office to forward your mail to your new address.
If you are moving more than 50 miles away for a new job, hold on to your receipts, you may be able to write off your moving expenses.
