Note: You still have time to visit Phoenix Zoolights. The holiday light show will be available through next weekend. It’s final evening in 2017 will be January 15th.
It’s a bit of a challenge getting into the Christmas spirit when the temperature outside is in the 70s. That’s why we always try to catch a special event or two around the holidays. Phoenix Zoolights is by far one of the most inspiring, and we feel we owe the folks at Phoenix Zoo and SRP a big holiday Thank You for that!
After attending several Zoolights in a row we began to marvel at and truly appreciate the thoughtful planning and massive effort that something like this must involve. Millions of individual lights are crafted into animals, flowers, and unique displays. Beginning in mid July, it takes a dedicated five-person crew 12 to 18 weeks to install everything from tens of thousands of lights enveloping massive trees, to the tiny bees buzzing around their glowing yellow hive.
This year’s Phoenix Zoolights display was as awesome as usual and then some! My favorite is the Music-In-Motion program, a synchronized presentation of lights on trees, floating towers and a 25-foot sphere on the lake, set to Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s Winter Palace and other holiday music medleys. There’s also lots of activities in addition to the lights… a 4D Theater Experience, the Polar Slide, Camel Rides, and two Phoenix Zoo staples are accessible as well; the Endangered Species Carousel and Stingray Bay.
We are certain that the thousands of people who attended the 25th Anniversary event will want to join us this Thursday in Thanking Phoenix Zoo, the organizers and installers of Zoolights, and the SRP power company, for giving each of us an incredibly memorable and breathtaking evening.
