After AZCentral reported a recent audit of Arizona Veteran’s Affairs revealing misuse of funds involving two Tempe service organizations, I believe there might be, at the very least, some course correction going on.
Kudos to the city of Tempe who, out of their own sense of goodwill and not reliant on the decisions of AZVA, has plans to build housing for Veterans and their families. According to Vice Mayor Cory Woods this was something the city has wanted to work on for quite some time.

Tempe continuing in its plans to build a housing community dedicated to veteran and their families.
The Arizona Department of Housing confirmed the Valor of Eighth project will receive over $10 million in federal low income tax credits over the next 10 years. Tempe Vice Mayor Corey Woods said with the recent funding, they can now proceed in their plans to support a demographic the city felt was being left out.
“This was just sort of one of the things that we actually wanted to work on was actually doing an innovative housing project for veterans and her families. One of the innovations that we weren’t seeing in other places around the valley,” Woods said.
The 50-unit community will be located at Rural Road and Eighth Street, just south of University. There is no set construction date. – read original –
