A brand new resource is emerging for Veterans to voice their concerns over the VA Health Care crisis. This is not a place of negativity but a vehicle for hope. The website is called The Wait We Carry, found here at http://thewaitwecarry.org/
I visited the site this morning, only 2 days after its initial launch, and already there are hundreds of stories of negligence and mismanagement, frustration and distress. The difference between this website and the recent media exposure is interpersonal involvement.
The media is to be applauded for bringing the VA Healthcare debacle to light. Things that veterans have known for years are now glaringly public. But media attention can only go so far. The Wait We Carry gathers the personal, one-on-one situation, not just for a collection of data that will languish in a file drawer like the records of these Veterans. This is a place where disclosure and interaction might actually result in a solution.
If you visit http://thewaitwecarry.org/, look for the subtle _about this tool_ link at the bottom left of the page. The ‘about’ concerns the creation of the site and its purpose. The Wait We Carry was founded by the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America organization. A short questionnaire will get you registered.
You don’t need to be a Veteran to visit the site. I challenge every American citizen to read a submission or two from your state. These are not just news stories. They are connections to individuals who’s decision it was their responsibility to carry the weight of our country’s freedom, your personal freedom, on their back until that very weight wounded them. It is now our responsibility to fix it.
