I’m not exactly sure what I was expecting but I was pleasantly surprised at how well attended, upbeat and informative the ribbon cutting ceremony was this morning. The new VA Medical Facility in Gilbert Arizona is not only quite impressive but it is now open and fully functioning.
To begin with, there was an amazing turn-out, standing room only and I understand they even ran out of printed programs. After a color guard of Vietnam Veterans, and enthusiastic recognition of each branch of the service, a number of distinguished speakers outlined the origins and goals of this new medical super-center.
These people genuinely cared! The scope of their involvement was noble and the sincerity in their words was almost tangible. This is a project that they are all understandably very proud of but not, it seemed, for the accolades it will bring them but for the comfort and convenience it will bring so many others.
This is no out-of-the-way, discarded or repurposed old building. This is brand new, attractive, welcoming, state-of-the-art, and right in the heart of Gilbert’s growing medical complex.
For this remarkable accomplishment, Thank You… to our honorable city of Gilbert, to the medical staff, volunteers, and administration who dreamed it, to our politicians and residents who approved it, to everyone who had a hand in making this happen, and to the Veterans and Military Members who so greatly appreciate it.
And while I’m at it I’d like to personally thank Victoria Reyes. During our tour of the facility, she graciously took the time to explain the MyHealtheVet website and its numerous benefits. Veterans can create a profile and log on to www.myhealth.va.gov to review VA benefits, access your medical history, order prescriptions, and so much more! Thanks Victoria for your patience, I had no idea where to start.
