It never ceases to impress me that police officers are willing to lay their lives on the line every day. These heroic men and women are acutely aware that even an ordinary domestic call or routine traffic stop could be deadly. They know the risks, and yet it’s the career they’ve chosen and they leave for work each day fully conscious of the danger.

Still, a police officer’s job isn’t all peril and uncertainty. They respond to emergencies of every kind. They enforce traffic and criminal laws to protect our lives and our property. They make court appearances and conduct investigations. And as pictured here, they educate the public, in particular our children, about following rules that keep them safe.

Today, January 9th, is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Every day, Police officers earn our gratitude and respect, but if someone in your family, a friend or acquaintance is a member of Law Enforcement, be sure to let them know especially today, how much they are appreciated.
