Thank You Thursday with Bubbles

A St. Patrick’s Day Thank You Thursday to… who else but Guinness!

Thursday Thank You - Bill Salvatore, Realty Excellence East Valley at Arizona Elite PropertiesA St. Patrick’s Day Thank You Thursday to… who else but Guinness!

This is probably not going to be what you’re thinking. Arthur Guinness (1725–1803) of Dublin was a fairly innovative man, once on purpose and again posthumously. Not only did he create the beer (stout actually) that he is renowned for to this day, but the company that bears his name was a catalyst for Guinness Book of World Records, a refreshingly innocent treasure trove of entertainment highlighting the weird, the remarkable and the ridiculous.

Now don’t get me wrong, I can appreciate a good tulip-shaped pint of Guinness dispensed at a precise 45 degree angle as much as the next guy, and the €2 billion the brewery generates annually is something to be acknowledged as well. But I’m a kid at heart, and it’s the Guinness Book of Records that really impresses me. It has inspired children as young as 7 and kids as old as 122, to take a shot at making history.

According to Wikipedia, the Book of Records holds its own record within itself as the Best Selling Copyrighted Book of all Time, (along with being one of the most often stolen).

The book was actually conceived in 1951 by a managing director of Guinness Breweries, Sir Hugh Beaver, but it was the company founded by Arthur Guinness that commissioned the book and made Beaver ‘s concept a modern-day international franchise.

I’ve always thought being an adjudicator for the Book of Records would be the coolest of cool jobs. Imagine working for a publication that, by nothing more than its existence, is the motivation for such accomplishments as Most Apples Crushed by a Bicep, the Longest Jump by a Cat (that’s an impressive 6 feet by the way), Longest Usable Golf Club, the Most Tattooed Person and even the Person Who Holds the Most Records. In 2015 alone there were over 50,000 entries to be processed… talk about job security!

So on behalf of kids of all ages, this Thank You Thursday we recognize Arthur Guinness for bringing to the party, the “Officially Amazing”. whether it’s the 45 degree angle at which it must be poured, or the 45 Arms-Free Cartwheels in 1 Minute, Mr. Guinness we are grateful for your refreshing contribution to our lives.
