Thank You Thursday – Housing Homeless Vets in Arizona

Veterans are among the most vulnerable of our homeless population. Some suffer debilitating physical and/or mental trauma while in service to their country. Others experience difficulty reintegrating with the community after serving in the military, and some struggle to reestablish civilian life while supporting a family. Whatever the complications, Veteran deserve, and are owed, the loyalty, support and assistance of their neighbors. The City of Glendale along with Veterans Community Project are promising just that!

This Thank You Thursday we want to offer a shout-out to the non-profit Veterans Community Project (VCP), the city of Glendale and Mericopa County. There’s a wonderful new venture in the works to provide dwellings for unhoused Veterans, in the form of a village of transitional homes along with the all the necessary supporting services. Glendale has contributed an 8 acre parcel for just $10 and worked out a $3 Million dollar deal with Mericopa County for the construction of 50 tiny homes. The state has since contributed more than 3.2 Million in addition funds. Veterans Community Project, a Kansas City based non-profit and the catalyst of this remarkable undertaking, has successfully established similar neighborhoods in Wisconsin, Missouri, South Dakota and Colorado.
