Thank You Thursday Honors ‘Send a Soldier a Smile’

A shout out to Lynda and Mike Wooten this Thank You Thursday!

With the holidays inching closer, you may be wondering how you can share a little bit of joy with someone else. It might be easier than you think, just Send a Soldier a Smile!

Lynda and Mike Wooten have been selflessly dedicating their holiday season to others for years. Each fall, they begin collecting, signing and preparing Christmas cards to send to military members who are deployed overseas during the holidays. They run fund raisers, drive all over the Phoenix Valley gathering cards, then box them all to get them sent on time. They’ve mailed tens of thousands of cards to various units of all our Armed Forces, occasionally including extra treats like Girl Scout Cookies.

Their adventure began with a suggestion from their son who was an Army Medic. Knowing that there were troops spending the holidays alone with little communication from home, Mike and Lynda didn’t hesitate, they jumped right in and established ‘Send a Soldier a Smile‘.

The Send a Soldier a Smile operation has ballooned over the years. School classrooms create beautiful hand-made cards with heartfelt messages. Friends, strangers and businesses mail or deliver boxes of cards to Mike & Lynda. Local organizations like the Phoenix Suns, Arizona Diamonbacks and the Arizona Coyotes have even contributed.

This week we dedicate Thank You Thursday to two of the most caring and thoughtful people we know. Lynda & Mike, words are not enough, nevertheless we want to say “Thank You” from the bottom of our hearts. And we know that the Service men and women you connect with during the holidays, appreciate your kindness beyond words!

On October 29th, 2019, Brooklyn V’s Pizza of Gilbert, Arizona, will be hosting an evening of GREAT food and fun prizes!
