Video: How to Shop for a Home with Instagram

Instagram is far more entertaining than most social media sites. It caters to the quirky and the unexpected. Instagram welcomes the photos that you may feel don’t belong in other places. If I have artsy shots of homes for sale, a beam of sunshine through a skylight, shadows from the window dividers on a shiny stone floor, fun antique glass door knobs in an ultra-modern home, I know that Instagram viewers will appreciate them. Worth taking a look at, I recently posted a unique, vintage ‘penny- candy wall’ that a home seller had installed in the base of their kitchen island.

Welcome to Today’s Home Update, I’m Carrie.

A picture-friendly website, Instagram, has over 200,000,000 active users and on any given day over 55,000,000 photos are uploaded. No wonder so many Real Estate Agents and home sellers are using this site to better showcase a home and attract a large pool of prospective buyers.

Sharing shots on Instagram helps to cut through some of the clutter. House hunters can search Instagram by entering such search terms as Homes for Sale, and the City or Community they’re interested in.

The number of photos that come up may be surprising, and these photos are not always typical. These are unique photos that showcase interesting aspects of the home and the property, such as an ornate design on kitchen cabinetry, or a star-filled view of the sky taken from the Master Bedroom.

While Instagram is devoted to sharing images, photos often include a brief description with additional details often different than what you would find on the MLS.

So if you’re looking to add a little fun to the house-hunting process sign on to Instagram. It may just the the social network that leads you to your new home.

Thanks for watching Today’s Home Update, see you next time.
