If family-friendly is where you want to live, seven metro Phoenix cities are among the top 100.
Gilbert ranked highest in WalletHub’s 150 Best Cities for Families analysis, coming in at No. 14. The East Valley town ranked second in socioeconomic environment and third in affordability. Phoenix garnered the highest family-friendly ranking among the top five U.S. cities by population.
WalletHub generates its rankings use open source data and combining factors to create a comparable scoring total. Cities are then ranked based on that score. The data assessed for this ranking included family activities and fun, health and safety, education and child care, affordability, socioeconomic environment.
The Valley ranked 3, 4 and 6 in affordability with East Valley cities Gilbert, Peoria and Chandler taking those slots. Gilbert ranked 2 in the U.S. on socioeconomic. It dropped to 125 for education and 93 in playgrounds per capita.
Phoenix was 7 for family activities and fun. Gilbert ranks 3 in the U.S. for lowest divorce rate, and the town hit the top five being the city with the fourth highest percentage of families with children under 18 and Scottsdale was dead last, 150, in the same ranking.
