MiniMotives: Do you watch “Tiny House Nation”? The tiny home trend is quickly picking up in popularity. There are hundreds of these tiny abodes all over the country. One of the most impressive is Macy Miller’s house in Boise, Idaho. An architect and designer, Miller built this tiny house on a gooseneck trailer by herself. She lives there with her partner, young daughter and Great Dane, and has another baby on the way.
747 Wing House: Turning the old into the new is taken to new levels with this Malibu home built using a decommissioned Boeing 747. You wouldn’t even know by looking at it that the house was once an airplane. Just look at the way the wings create a sweeping roofline to enhance the home’s modern architecture.
Winchester Mystery House: Are you more into history and haunted homes? A look into some of the strangest homes in America wouldn’t be complete without a glimpse into the Winchester mansion. This house is now an attraction, but it was built by Sarah Winchester as atonement for the people who died because of her family’s famed gun business. She believed that if the expansive maze of a home was never finished it would protect her from bad spirits.
Mushroom House: Cincinnati, Ohio, probably doesn’t come to mind when you first think about strange and unusual homes. The Mushroom House proves this wrong. It gained national attention when it was on the market just three years ago, and it took some time to find the right buyer. This 1200-square-foot home was built as a combination of architecture and sculpture by Terry Brown, a nationally recognized architect.
Fallingwater: Last, this list must include a design by famous American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. One of his most stunning buildings is Fallingwater, a home built over a waterfall in central Pennsylvania. The cantilevered construction was groundbreaking at the time. Unfortunately, as the decades wore on the house did begin to settle, and now it needs some engineering assistance to keep it upright. But even those flaws can’t detract from the overall beauty of this marvel.
